Incoming new students are not required to reside in on-campus residence halls.However, those who complete their housing application by May 1 will be assigned to on-campus residence halls.In the past, some first-year students have been required to live at the Barrymore Hotel, which made their transition to campus life more difficult.

Incoming new students are not required to reside in on-campus residence halls.However, those who complete their housing application by May 1 will be assigned to on-campus residence halls.In the past, some first-year students have been required to live at the Barrymore Hotel, which made their transition to campus life more difficult.

However, through junior and senior year, most students, who desire to live on campus, will be able to live on campus in one of five upper-class residence halls or the Barrymore Hotel.

To support those upper-class and graduate students who will be living off campus, an off-campus housing coordinator has developed a comprehensive program that provides information, resources and education for a successful transition to off-campus living.

Continuing students will have the opportunity to select Palm Apartments in the Spring 2017 room selection process for the following fall.

The construction will offer additional housing for upper-class students.

On-campus residential living for new students will ease student transition to the UT environment and provide significant support by recognizing the inherent challenges of heightened academic rigor and increased independence in the first year of college.

Second-year students often need the stability of campus residential life to support their continued academic and social development.

Those with fewer terms living on campus and who meet all housing selection deadlines will be given higher priority for on-campus spaces.

While the Office of Residence Life cannot guarantee on-campus housing for all students, it strives to provide on-campus housing for those students who will benefit the most from the personal and community support of living on campus.

As such, research and experience has shown that first-year students benefit greatly from the on-campus, residential experience to help them transition from home life to independent living and study at a university.
