The MSTI degree is offered by a group of leading UW faculty from the following UW departments and schools, in partnership with the Global Innovation Exchange: To earn your Master of Science in Technology Innovation you need to complete 60 graduate credits, including a launch project.
All courses are required, however in some cases there may be limited opportunities to exchange courses for electives.
Generally, additions to or substitutions of the core courses are strongly discouraged, change to the track courses are possible but will receive scrutiny and track electives are most easily modified.
MSEN 5000 Fundamentals of Materials Science and Engineering (Boot Camp) will be offered to new incoming graduate students during the Augmester.Its objectives vary from one subject to another, but there’s usually an emphasis on the student conducting independent research into a topic of their own choice.Thus coursework often takes the form of some sort of investigation; it may, therefore, help to have your ‘detective’ hat on as you explore, investigate and analyse your topic.In this intensive 15-month program, students learn how to take an innovative idea from concept to development, and on to launch.The MSTI degree immerses you in a project-based curriculum developed around three key disciplines: design thinking, technology development, and entrepreneurship.It is an intensive 2 week course designed to bring students up to speed in knowledge of key materials science topics prior to the beginning of the fall semester.Boot camp credits will count toward the breadth elective requirement.Students subsequently assist with one of these courses, providing them with valuable teaching experience for pursuing an academic career.Other courses include core and elective courses in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, biochemistry, pharmacology and statistics. Technology Development Learn the fundamentals for developing end-to-end hardware and software prototypes.Cover topics like managing data and signal processing, and mobility and navigation.
