Hourly compensation will be provided at the Student Assistant C level ($10.50 - 12.50/h depending upon experience).

OURS designed the Undergraduate Research Assistants in the Humanities (URA-H) and Social and Behavioral Sciences (URA-SBS) program to provide meaningful work-study opportunities to students who may not have the opportunity to engage with non-compensated research activities.

URA selection is done primarily by the faculty with approval from OURS.

Please note that the URA grant cannot be awarded to support an independent study (499), or an Honors Thesis.Preference is given to faculty who have been at GVSU for at least one year and have an interest in building their research in a way that will engage undergraduate students.All work-study students are eligible to apply for these positions.URA-Hs conduct library database searches, assist with archival research, and write annotations and literature reviews. AWARD The award provides research assistants with a paid wage for 8-10 hours of work for one semester.URA-SBSs transcribe interviews, code data, perform literature reviews, as well as assist with other research responsibilities. The wage is determined by OURS in consultation with Financial Aid and the faculty supervisor.During the 2018-19 academic year, applicants must have been full-time undergraduate students enrolled in programs at a UA campus and must have been in good academic standing (min. Applicants are expected to have identified a supporting mentor (UA faculty) and worked with that mentor to write the proposal.The summer URA is expected to work 40 hours a week during the summer (May 12 – August 17, 2019).Your faculty mentor should submit letter of recommendation to INBRE Committee will review the applications.Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 1) overall scientific merit of the project; 2) relevance of the research to the overall objectives of Alaska INBRE; 3) written quality of the application; 4) the applicant’s academic standing; and 5) faculty mentor’s letter of support.The primary objective of Alaska INBRE Undergraduate Research Assistantship initiative is to provide support for a project in the biomedical sciences and health with mentorship from UA biomedical or health faculty.Students funded through this program will gain valuable experience in designing, conducting and reporting biomedical research.
