Here you will be able to find useful information and links for homework, school projects and events and other exciting things that are happening in our year group this year. This topic will have a Science focus, however the children will still have aspects of Art, History and Geography, for example, taught to provide them with a rich and engaging curriculum.

The children will be developing their knowledge and understanding about recycling, global warming and animal habitats (to name a few).

If you would prefer to do a different activity at home such as practising something you know your child needs help with, just make a note in the planner and they will get points for this too!

Homework isn’t meant to be stressful for children or parents!

Each week children are given spellings linked to the phonics sounds we are learning and will also include high frequency words. Sometimes children have the opportunity to create a project on other areas of the curriculum, such as a science experiment or art project.

In this section you will find Homework tasks and guides according to year group, on how you can help your children at home.We set weekly Maths homework to consolidate that week’s learning. Every day children are given the opportunity to choose a reading book to take home to develop an enthusiasm for reading. This promotes children’s independence and gives them freedom to choose a book that will engage them.If you have any questions about homework, please ask. This year your Year 1 teachers are Mr Williams and Miss Jarmson and we are both really excited about the learning that will take place this year. You will receive a new homework grid at the start of each half term and the activities will be linked to what we are learning in school. The work should be of a good quality and should be brought to school on a Friday to be checked, in their blue homework folder. Each child will be given a points target to achieve by the end of the half-term.You can pick which tasks you attempt, the important ones are at the top marked ‘everyday’.An explanation will be given by us or attached to the homework sheet to give you guidance.Homework is expected to be handed in on the date specified.
